Popup Bagels: A New Bagel Shop Coming to the UWS

We’re excited to share our recent interview with Adam Goldberg, the founder of Popup Bagels, soon to open on the Upper West Side. With seven successful bagel shops under his belt, including four in Connecticut (Redding, Greenwich, Westport, and Newtown), one in Wellesley, MA, one in Palm Beach, FL, and another in NY on Thompson St, Popup Bagels is gearing up to bring its unique bagel sales approach to the Upper West Side. Popup Bagels is scheduled to open at 338 Columbus Avenue, between W. 75th & 76th Streets in mid-April.

Starting as a backyard pickup window that shared freshly baked bagels with friends, Popup Bagels has ridden a wave of momentum, and become a burgeoning bagel business. “We never expected what happened to happen,” Adam reflected. “We love our product, love making the bagels, and just kept going, kept having fun.”

Despite the competitive landscape of the bagel business, with UWS stalwarts like Absolute Bagels, Zucker’s, Tal Bagels, and the upcoming arrival of Kossars, Adam is confident there’s room for more. Popup Bagels aims to stand out by offering bagels that are “a bit smaller, with a crispy exterior and a lighter interior”. This isn’t your typical bagel shop. Popup Bagels will carry five types of bagels (plain, sesame, poppy, everything & salt), a variety of artisan cream cheeses, and fish. The bagels are available in packs of three, six, or twelve and are not cut in half; rather, they are meant to be ripped and dunked into one of their artisan spreads. The minimum in-store purchase of three bagels and 8 oz. of cream cheese will run you $12. Pre-orders for the office or a weekend brunch can be made on their website, where a minimum purchase of twelve bagels and two artisan cream cheeses will cost $42. The UWS shop will offer iced coffee and iced tea. Hot coffee and sandwiches will not be available.

Stay tuned for more updates as Popup Bagels, winner of Brooklyn Bagelfest’s “Best Bagel” title two years in a row, brings its award-winning freshly made bagels to the UWS. With a commitment to quality, community, and a bit of fun, Adam and his team are ready to make a delicious mark on the neighborhood.
