Model Boat Sailing
Also known as the Model Boat Pond where you will find each Saturday morning form March to November children and enthusiasts racing miniature sailboats. While model boat sailing is not a feature of the Upper West Side’s parks themselves, this tradition thrives just across the park at Central Park’s Conservatory Water, a short walk from many Upper West Side neighborhoods. Here, visitors—young and old—can rent wind-powered, remote-controlled model sailboats and enjoy a classic New York City pastime. The pond, surrounded by benches and iconic statues like Alice in Wonderland and Hans Christian Andersen, is a picturesque setting for both casual sailing and organized races by the Central Park Model Yacht Club. Managed by the Bronx-based nonprofit Rocking the Boat, the program also offers educational experiences in boat building and STEM.
