Arthur Ross Terrace

Situated adjacent to the Rose Center for Earth and Space and built atop a parking garage at 81st Street and Columbus Avenue, this expansive 47,114-square-foot terrace offers a landscaped retreat in the heart of Manhattan’s Upper West Side. Designed by renowned landscape architect Kathryn Gustafson, the terrace features sloping lawns, a central plaza with water jets and fiber optic lights shaped like the Orion constellation, and ample seating among trees and greenery. The space is celebrated for its whimsical water features—popular with children for splashing and play—and its inviting atmosphere for relaxation, picnics, and gatherings. Open during regular museum hours, Arthur Ross Terrace is accessible from both Theodore Roosevelt Park and the museum itself. Located at 200 Central Park West (next to the American Museum of Natural History). amnh.org
