Museum of Art & Design
The Museum of Arts and Design (MAD) is a cultural institution located at 2 Columbus Circle. Founded in 1956 as the Museum of Contemporary Crafts by philanthropist Aileen Osborn Webb, MAD has evolved to celebrate the creative process across craft, art, design, architecture, fashion, and technology. Its mission is to collect, display, and interpret objects that document contemporary and historic innovation, offering visitors unique opportunities to engage with the making and meaning of art in daily life.
Since moving to its current home in 2008—a striking 54,000-square-foot building redesigned by Brad Cloepfil of Allied Works Architecture—MAD has dramatically expanded its exhibitions, educational programs, and artist residencies. The museum is renowned for its Open Studio program, where visitors can observe and interact with artists at work, and for the Tiffany & Co. Foundation Jewelry Gallery, a pioneering center for contemporary studio jewelry. With panoramic views of Central Park and a restaurant, MAD stands as a crossroads for creativity at the heart of New York City.. Located at 2 Columbus Circle. 212.299.7777 madmuseum.org
