Tarr-Coyne Wild West Playground
Tarr-Coyne Wild West Playground is a imaginative play space designed with a distinctive western frontier theme. Originally crafted in 1988 by architect Richard Dattner, the playground features interconnected timber structures, a low timber wall, and a central bridge spanning a “lake” of sand, dividing the area into sections for preschoolers and older children. Its design evokes a frontier town, complete with a water channel and spray features inspired by the Colorado River, encouraging creative play and adventure.
Reconstructed and updated by the Central Park Conservancy in 2015 and beyond, the playground now boasts improved accessibility, new wood play features, redesigned water elements, and restored landscaping. The result is a welcoming, safe environment that blends with the natural surroundings of Central Park, offering children plenty of opportunities for climbing, exploring, and imaginative fun.
Tarr-Coyne Wild West Playground stands out as a family-friendly destination in the heart of Manhattan, where the spirit of the Wild West meets modern playground design.. Located at 93rd St. and Central Park West. centralparknyc.org
