Self-Guided Walking Tour – Unique Upper West Side Historic Buildings
The Upper West Side is home to some of the most unique buildings in Manhattan. The buildings on this tour are chosen for their architectural design and historic significance. This leisurely 2.3 mile tour loops gently through some of the most interesting real estate on the Upper West Side. Beginning at the Fieldston School on 64th Street and Central Park West, the route winds west over a couple of avenues to West End, before heading north to 79th Street and the American Museum of Natural History. From there, circle back south via Central Park West to The Dakota, at 72nd Street. The Dakota was both the former home of John Lennon, and the place where he was tragically shot. Finally, cross the street into Strawberry Fields, the section of Central Park dedicated to the memory of John Lennon. The 2.5 acre landscaped area was named after the Beatle’s song “Strawberry Fields Forever”.
