Fred’s

The restaurant is named after a female black Labrador Retriever who was originally bred by Guiding Eyes for the Blind. Though Fred didn’t become a guide dog, she found a loving home on the UWS, inspiring the establishment’s name and dog-themed decor. Fred’s menu features classic American fare with a focus on comfort food. Their burgers and macaroni and cheese are particularly renowned. Brunch is a popular time to visit, with dishes like Traditional Eggs Benedict and Huevos Rancheros. The restaurant also offers a kids’ menu, making it a family-friendly destination. In 2022, Fred’s came under new ownership when veteran West Side restaurateur and UWS resident Jeremy Wladis took over the establishment. When you are finished eating, stop next door to the cocktail bar Scarlet, a joint venture of Wladis and Michael Imperioli. Located at 476 Amsterdam Avenue (between 82nd & 83rd Street). 212.579.3076 fredsnyc.com
